Polar Panic
Imitation is the best form of flattery…
Which is why whoever is making Polar Panic must LOVE Bomberman. That gameplay mechanic is at the core of this game.

I hope this is headed to DSi Ware of the App Store soon.
The original Military Madness on the TurboGrafx16 set the standard for console strategy games. Experience it for yourself in the this enhanced remake, which includes new hero units in multiplayer mode.
Actually – they’re called COMMANDER UNITS – but I’ll let it slide. Also featured at the top of this page is BONK. You can find this all in the February 2010 Nintendo Power magazine on page 18.
Go buy them – soon – when they’re out.
Get it while it’s hot.
I love indie games.
This game deserves to get published.
This game is about your daily routine.
Especially if your daily routine involves going to work & sitting in a cubicle. While you might imagine my job at a gaming company is all fun & games (sorry), it’s actually far more monotonous than you might imagine. I sit in a cubicle, answer e-mails, pre-meetings to prepare for meetings, have the meetings, have post-meetings to talk about what happened in the meetings… It never ends. And much like Groundhog Day – we’re all the vast majority of us are, by necessity, by force of habit, stuck in the same endless loop.
Same drive, same traffic, same people…
The same greeting – it might not be your late, but it’s always the same.
The same cubicle, with the same people, doing the same thing.
You have an opportunity to break out of this monotony. Can you?
This game is a beautiful example of a game that makes you think. It’s fun, but not in the classic sense of gameplay. And you don’t shoot anything.
Play it here.
MILITARY MADNESS: NECTARIS released today.
Go buy it on Xbox Live Arcade.
I produced it & I think it turned out really awesome.
Here’s the official website – which is also awesome.
I think there’s a segment of the console market who would enjoy SANDBOX games. We’ve seen this at the company I currently work for… We released a Wii Ware title that really isn’t a game – there’s no objectives, there’s no winning, no loosing, no points – it just is. And it’s done very well. In fact it’s done better than all the other game’s we’ve released that have objectives & points (on Wii Ware).
I wouldn’t’ recommend doing something like this on the Wii – especially if you want to make money. It just so happens that my example was released on the Wii.
That said – I think there’s room on the other two platforms for games that are just a SANDBOX. I’ve found an example of one that I think could do well.
Sure things would need to be done to make it more console friendly – but the underlying elements of SANDBOX and lack of clear cut objectives would remain. The space might not be that big for this type of game… The publisher that does it first & does it well will dominate it.
